The CurlyWags Method
Our patent-pending Curlywags Method is a gentle, time-saving grooming process designed specifically for curly coats. It reduces over-brushing and pain, while extending tangle-free and mat-free time between sessions, resulting in longer-lasting, springy curls and smoother waves.
Once every 2 weeks, follow these steps with your dog.
Set aside 1-3 hours depending on the size & coat condition of your dog.

Step 1: Shampoo & Condition
Time: 10-20 minutes
- Apply shampoo and work through with fingertips or a scalp brush.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Apply conditioner generously. Gently brush through with a curly coat brush.
- Do not rinse the conditioner out.

Step 2: Brush
Time: 30-120 minutes
- Use a curly coat brush to detangle the coat, employing the layer brushing technique.
- Work section by section - don’t forget the underside, inner legs, and armpits.
- If your dog is matted going into the brushing, you may not be able to remove all the mats in a single session. However, you can steadily decrease them over multiple sessions until your dog’s coat is mat-free!
- After brushing, rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.

Step 3: Apply Curl Cream
Time: 5-10 minutes
1. Pat your dog with a towel (preferably microfiber) until no longer
dripping wet, but still damp.
2. Apply CurlyWags Curl Cream:
- Dispense a small dollop and rub hands together so the
cream covers your hand & fingers. - Spread the cream on the coat using a raking motion - rake
the fur away from the body at a 90-degree angle. - Make sure the cream reaches all the way to the roots.
- Use a generous amount of cream.
- Repeat for each section.
3. Work through section by section until the entire coat is covered.

Step 4: Blow-Dry
Time: 15-30 minutes
- Use a diffuser or normal blow dryer without any attachment.
- For 10-15 minutes, blow dry on medium heat from a distance of roughly 20-30cm (8-12in). Move between different areas of the coat so that all areas get attention. It is important not to blow dry from too
close during this phase to maintain curl shape! - Next, switch to a normal blow dryer if not using one already, and set it to low heat. Blow dry from a closer distance to the skin, roughly 5-10cm (2-4 in). During this phase, do not leave the blow dryer in the same spot for more than 5 seconds. Do this until you’ve covered every area of your dog’s coat.
- Do not forget to dry the armpits and inner legs.
- Remember never to point a blow dryer directly into your dog’s eyes, ears, or nose. Instead of blow-drying, dry your dog’s ears with a towel or cotton ball.
